About motorzoo power cables and connectors
The wiring harnesses for our outboard motor powertrains may carry high current loads, up to:
- 62 Amps for the 48V / 3.0kW motors
- 135 Amps for the 48V / 6.5kW motors
- 240 Amps for the 48V / 11.5kW motors.
Accordingly, we use quality pure copper wiring, combined with sturdy and reliable Anderson plug connector systems.
Also, the battery terminals on all our LiFePO₄ batteries make use of the standardised battery M8 terminal connector.
The outboards themselves, may use 50 Amp (SB50), 120 Amp (SB120), 175 Amp (SB175), or 350 Amp (SB350) connectors, depending on the motor.
The more powerful the motor, the higher the current load.
And higher current loads demand thicker cabling, and larger connectors.
About the motorzoo Battery Cable M8 to SB120 Amp
The Battery Cable M8 to SB120 Amp lead is made to standardise the connection batteries to the wiring harness.
Our powerzoo LiFePO₄ batteries connect through the electric outboard motor wiring harness using Anderson connectors.
Starting at the battery end, the M8 connectors are designed to attach by bolts to the battery terminals.
The red cable connects to the positive terminal, and the black cable connects to the negative terminal, as per the norms.
The Anderson SB120 (120 Amp) connector is then able to plug into a variety of cables and adapters in the wiring harness.
The Anderson SB120 (120 Amp) connector is also the standard adapter to connect to our powerzoo 16 Amp charger for recharging.
The connectors have an intrusion protection rating of IP44.
Which indicates total protection from dust ingress, and protection from water splashes from any angle.
Note that this does not indicate protection from total immersion in water, or from high pressure water spray.
Operating Safety
At motorzoo we are obsessed with operating safety, in everything we do, and everything we sell.
This is why we use only high quality true copper wiring for the power trains, and sturdy Anderson connectors.
Our power trains are over-engineered in terms of size load capacity for the loads that they are expected to handle.
And it is not possible to connect harnesses which are inadequate for the power of the motors they are intended to service.
The cables, connectors, and wiring harnesses are an important part of the overall powertrain for the electric outboards.
And they should be inspected regularly for any damage, and maintained to protect the powertrain from issues such as corrosion or heat damage.
Spare Parts And Accessories
There are also other spare parts and accessories available across the motorzoo range of electric outboard motors.
For example, our range of performance outboard spares includes:
